What is a Code Camp?

A Code Camp is basically an all day developer geekfest.

Code Camp is a new type of community event where developers talk with—and learn from—fellow developers. All are welcome to attend and speak. Code Camps have been wildly successful. This is the 3rd event we have held as a state (South Carolina) and the 2nd time we have held this event in Charleston.

An original Code Camp organizer, Thom Robbins, wrote a six-point manifesto: Code Camps are (1) by and for the developer community; (2) always free; (3) community developed material; (4) no fluff – only code; (5) community ownership; and (6) never occur during working hours.

A quick summary of a Code Camp is: Free, Developer, No Marketing, By and for the community

NOTE: Here in South Carolina we have added an addendum for our speaker rules. Speaker rules for South Carolina are geared towards building the next generation of .NET Developer Rock stars so the 'not so famous' local types get first session choices. Second, we get the regional and big-name speakers. Microsoft folks last. We want to help our local developer heroes pass their knowledge on!

Hope to see you there!

Sessions will range from informal “chalk talks” to presentations. There will be a mix of presenters, some experienced folks, for some it may be their first opportunity to speak in public. We are expecting to see people from throughout the South East region (South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Alabama, and Virginia).

All of this is of no cost to you. (Other, very nice people and companies are graciously contributing to the event)

Here’s what you get:

· Breakfast

· Lunch

· Lots of SWAG

· Oh, and some great presentations and the opportunity to meet a bunch of great people.

What can I expect at the South Carolina Code Camp 3.0?

Never presented before? Don't be shy! Code Camp is for you! We'll even have a pre-camp session for first-time presenters with tips and coaching from the pros.

We are looking for one-hour sessions, with 10 minutes of question and answer. We want to see more code than PowerPoint slides. We want to see your passion.

Download the Speaker Submission Form, fill it out and send it to Murray Gordon via gcnug1@gmail.com.
